Battle through a hostile space colony, shoot down robots, dodge hazards, and upgrade your weapons to avenge your father's death in Journey to Silius on NES.
Journey to Silius is a 1990 Nintendo Entertainment System game developed and published by Sunsoft. It came out during a time when the NES library was packed with action platformers, and it stood out for its gritty, sci-fi setting and its punishing, no-nonsense approach to difficulty. The game was originally meant to be a tie-in for the movie The Terminator, but when that license was lost, Sunsoft retooled it into its own original story.
You control Jay McCray, a soldier on a mission to avenge his father's death by infiltrating a space colony overrun by terrorists. The gameplay is straightforward but demanding; you move from left to right through tightly designed stages, shooting down a relentless stream of robotic enemies and dodging environmental hazards. Your main arsenal includes a standard blaster that can be upgraded to more powerful weapons, like a three-way shot or a homing missile, though losing a life resets you back to the basic gun. The objective is clear: fight through six stages, defeat a large boss at the end of each, and survive the constant onslaught. It feels tense and deliberate, demanding careful movement and precise aim rather than reckless speed. Playing it is a test of patience and reflexes, where every small victory feels earned.
