Game Overview
Karateka on NES is this weird mix of simple and frustrating. You walk right, fight a guy, walk some more, fight another guy—but the timing on blocks and counters feels just slightly off, like the game's fighting you as much as the enemies.
That health bar regenerating when you stand still? You'll be doing that a lot. The enemies telegraph their moves, but the window to react is razor-thin. I remember getting halfway to Akuma's palace only to lose to some random guard because I mistimed a single high kick.
It's got charm though—the princess rescue story is barebones, but the side-scrolling dojo fights feel oddly tense when you're low on health. Just don't expect smooth combat. Karateka makes you work for every punch.
