Kid Kool came out for the NES in 1988, developed by Vic Tokai. It was one of those side-scrolling platformers that filled the library back then, not particularly famous but with its own quirks. You play as a kid in a red cap, trying to rescue a princess across a series of themed worlds.
You control Kid Kool, running and jumping through stages while racing against a strict time limit. The main goal is to reach the end of each level, but you also collect bells to extend your time and find hidden items for extra points. The game scrolls screen by screen, forcing you to plan jumps carefully and avoid enemies like hopping frogs and flying birds. It moves fast and gets difficult quickly, with precise platforming required to progress. Playing it feels like a constant, tense scramble against the clock.
