Kid Niki 2 came out on the NES in 1990, developed by Irem. It arrived late in the console's life, when many players were already looking ahead to the 16-bit generation, so it didn't get a huge amount of attention at the time.

You control Kid Niki, a young warrior who must rescue Princess Margo from the evil Stone Wizard. The game is a side-scrolling action platformer where you move screen by screen, clearing each area of enemies before proceeding. Your main weapon is a spinning sword attack that surrounds your character, useful for hitting foes above and below. You also collect power-ups that change your weapon, like a boomerang or a fireball. The levels are full of strange enemies and sudden environmental shifts, like riding on the back of a dinosaur that bursts through a wall. The pacing is quick, and the platforming demands precise jumps, making some sections quite tough. It feels chaotic and unpredictable in a way that keeps you on your toes.
