Play Kingdom Hearts - Chain of Memories (E)(Eternity) Online
Sora fights with playing cards now—you build decks to chain attacks in this weird but satisfying GBA twist on Kingdom Hearts combat. The Disney worlds feel like half-remembered dreams, and those sprite animations? Way better than they needed to be.

Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories came out on the Game Boy Advance in 2004, developed by Square Enix and Jupiter. It was a strange but welcome sight on the handheld, a direct sequel to the first PlayStation 2 game that tried to bridge the gap in the story with its own unique style. The GBA was full of inventive RPGs at the time, and this one certainly stood out, even if it felt a little experimental.
You control Sora as he explores a mysterious castle made of shifting, memory-based rooms. Your main goal is to ascend floor by floor, each themed after a Disney world you vaguely remember from the first game. Combat uses a card-based system; you build a deck of attack, magic, and item cards to execute combos or spells. Navigating each room requires using map cards to unlock doors, which dictates the enemies and events you'll face. The pacing can be deliberate, even slow, as you manage your deck between fights, and the difficulty spikes noticeably in later stages. It feels strategic and a little lonely, like piecing together a story you can't quite grasp.
