Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories came out on the Game Boy Advance in 2004, developed by Square Enix and Jupiter. You control Sora, moving through the castle room by room, battling Heartless and Disney villains you thought you'd left behind. Your main goal is to climb the castle's floors, but to progress you need to use a deck of cards to create doors and shape the environments you explore. Combat is entirely card-based; every attack, spell, and item is a card you play in real time, and timing your card breaks against enemies is crucial. The game can feel methodical, even difficult, as you manage your deck and learn which cards work best against certain enemies. It feels like a strategic puzzle layered over the usual action, making every encounter demand your full attention.
