1989 Amiga strategy game. Conquer 63 provinces through tactical warfare and resource management. Features turn-based battles, first-person archery, and 4-player support. Manage economy and armies in 15th-century England.
Kingdoms of England is one of those old-school Amiga strategy games where you’re basically trying to take over medieval England, one province at a time. You start with a single territory and a tiny budget—just enough to buy a handful of troops or maybe build a wall if you’re feeling defensive. The map’s split into 63 provinces, and the goal is to conquer enough of them to declare yourself king. There’s something satisfying about watching your little empire grow, even if the AI rivals (or your friends, if you’re playing multiplayer) keep sniping your best lands.
Battles can go two ways: quick and dirty, where numbers mostly decide the fight, or full-on tactical mode where you’re manually moving units and lining up catapult shots. I usually go for the detailed fights—way more fun, even if I occasionally misclick and send my cavalry straight into a pike wall. Every six months, there’s this weirdly immersive archery tournament where you aim in first-person for cash prizes. It’s a nice break from the map screen, though I swear the wind physics are rigged.
Not gonna lie, the economy’s brutal at first—taxes come in slow, and troops aren’t cheap. But once you figure out which provinces are worth the fight, it clicks. Just don’t expect mercy from the AI. They’ll backstab you the second your defenses look thin.
