Knights of Valour 2 came out in arcades in 1999, developed by IGS. It was part of that wave of side-scrolling beat 'em ups that kept the genre alive when consoles were taking over. You could find it tucked in the corner of a pizza place or a bowling alley, usually next to more popular titles, but it had its own gritty charm.
You pick from five characters, each with distinct weapons and special moves, and hack your way through screen after screen of soldiers and mythical beasts. The goal is straightforward: clear each area, defeat the boss, and move on. You can juggle enemies with combos, block and counter, or use a super attack that drains your health if you're desperate. The pacing is relentless, with enemies swarming from all sides, and the difficulty can spike without warning. It feels like a constant, chaotic brawl where every decision matters in the moment.
