Game Overview
Legend of Faerghail is one of those old-school Amiga RPGs that feels like a lost cousin of The Bard’s Tale—but with its own weird charm. You start off trying to figure out why elves, usually the peaceful types, have gone full murder-mode and are marching on the city of Thyn. Your job? Rally a party of adventurers, trek to Cyldane for backup, and—of course—get tangled in something way bigger than just angry elves.
The first-person dungeons are maze-like in that classic ‘80s way (hope you like mapping on graph paper), and combat’s turn-based but with a twist: positioning actually matters. Put your mage too close to an orc, and suddenly they’re fumbling spells like they’ve got butterfingers. It’s janky in places, but there’s something satisfying about piecing together a party that actually has to fight smart.
Fair warning: it’s unforgiving, and the story takes some digging to uncover. But if you’ve got patience for cryptic clues and enjoy that particular flavor of old-school dungeon crawling, this one’s worth a look. Just maybe keep a walkthrough handy.
