You play as the Baudelaire kids—Violet with her inventing, Klaus with his bookish brain, or Sunny with her tiny teeth—trying to outrun Count Olaf's ridiculous disguises. The whole thing feels like flipping through a gothic pop-up book, complete with creaky mansions and suspiciously cheerful townsfolk who never help when you need them.
What surprised me is how much it actually feels like the series—not just some slapped-together movie game. You'll pick locks with hairpins, decode weird symbols in old books, and occasionally send Sunny crawling through air vents to cause chaos. The puzzles make you think like the kids would, and the writing's got that same dry, miserable humor (expect plenty of "this won't end well" narration). Just don't get too attached to anything working out—it's right there in the title.
Honestly, it's one of those rare licensed games where someone clearly loved the source material. The spooky carnival level alone is worth dealing with the GBA's tiny screen.
