Magical Drop III is one of those Neo Geo puzzle games that looks simple at first—just match colored balloons, right?—but gets surprisingly deep once you start playing. The third button is a game-changer, letting you pull down extra rows of balloons when you're in a tight spot. And thank goodness they finally let you grab normal and special balloons together—no more awkward juggling like in Magical Drop II.

The frozen balloons are trickier this time, too. Some of them are preset colors, so you can't just thaw them with any random match—you gotta plan ahead. And the way attacks mess with your opponent's field? Way more chaotic now. Each character screws up the other player's columns in different patterns—Empress starts from the left, World from the right, and Judgement just wrecks the middle first. (Though Fool and Devil still play like the old games, flooding the whole screen at once.)

Versus mode is where it really shines, though. Picking your character actually matters—they all mess with the opponent in different ways, almost like a fighting game. It's the kind of thing that starts casual but turns into screaming matches when someone pulls off a ridiculous comeback.
