Okay, so The King of Fighters '97 is that classic Neo Geo fighter where you pick a team of three and just go wild. The roster’s stacked with favorites like Kyo, Iori, and Terry Bogard—each with their own ridiculous combos and special moves. I always end up picking the same team because I’m terrible at branching out, but hey, it works.
Matches are fast and chaotic, especially when you’re down to your last fighter and suddenly remember you’ve got a desperation move. The pixel art still holds up, too—those super animations when you land a special are so satisfying. And if you’ve got a friend around, the 2-player versus mode turns into pure, unfiltered trash talk.
It’s not the fanciest fighter out there now, but there’s something about the way it plays that just feels right. You’ll either love it or get wrecked trying.
