Game Overview

Mermaid Melody: Pichi Pichi Pitch: Pichi Pichitto Live came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2003, developed by KCE Studios and published by Konami. It was a time when anime tie-ins were plentiful on the handheld, and this one fit right in, offering a direct adaptation of the colorful, musical shoujo series without much pretense.

You control one of the mermaid princesses, navigating through side scrolling stages and engaging in rhythm based battles against various foes. The main objective is to progress through the story by defeating enemies with song, using well timed button presses to match on screen cues and build up your special attack gauge. Signature mechanics include switching between your human and mermaid forms for different song effects, and collecting items to unlock new costumes and songs. The pacing is generally forgiving, more about enjoying the music and story than overcoming steep challenge. It feels like participating in a cheerful, interactive episode of the show.
