Capcom released The Little Mermaid for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1991, a time when licensed games were a common sight on the platform. It was one of many Disney adaptations that tried to capture the spirit of its source material while fitting into the action-adventure mold popular on the NES.
You control Ariel as she swims through screen by screen environments, shooting air bubbles to trap enemies and digging in the sand for pearls and other collectibles. The main goal is to defeat Ursula's minions and eventually confront the sea witch herself. Upgrading your attack power by finding hidden treasures is essential, and the pacing is brisk without being overwhelming. It feels light and fluid, a straightforward but satisfying underwater romp.
