Metal Slug Advance is classic run-and-gun chaos squeezed into a Game Boy Advance cartridge. You pick one of two soldiers (I always go with the guy who looks like he’s yelling permanently) and dive straight into bullet-dodging madness. The usual Metal Slug insanity is here—ridiculous enemy designs, screen-filling explosions, and those chunky little tanks you can hijack mid-battle.
What’s new are the E-cards. Every time you rescue a POW, they toss you one of these collectibles like a weird thank-you note. Back at camp, they actually do stuff—boost your grenade count, tweak your movement speed, that sort of thing. It’s a nice twist that makes replaying levels feel less repetitive, especially when you’re hunting for that one card to complete a set.
Fair warning: it’s tough as nails, even by Metal Slug standards. You’ll die a lot to cheap hits from off-screen enemies, but the sheer spectacle of a tiny GBA pumping out all those sprites and explosions makes up for it. The soundtrack’s got that perfect military march-meets-panic vibe too.
