Game Overview

Metroid (PC10) is one of those NES games that feels way ahead of its time—a side-scrolling action-adventure where you explore this eerie, interconnected world as bounty hunter Samus Aran. The first thing that hits you is the isolation. No hand-holding, no map at first, just you and the hum of your power suit in these alien caves.

You start with just a basic arm cannon, but slowly find upgrades—missiles, the morph ball, the ice beam—that let you backtrack and uncover new paths. The world opens up in this weird, organic way. One minute you're stuck, the next you remember some blocked tunnel from hours ago that you can now access.

Boss fights like Kraid and Ridley are brutal if you're underpowered, but that just makes finding energy tanks and weapon upgrades feel even better. The final stretch through Tourian, dodging Metroids while racing to take down Mother Brain, still holds up as a tense, satisfying climax.

Metroid (PC10) nails that lonely, exploratory vibe—even if you’ll probably get lost a few times before it clicks.
