Defending planets on Defender, jousting on ostriches, dodging Robotron’s bullet hell—it’s all here, brutally faithful to the arcade. That Sinistar voice still haunts me.

Game Overview

Midway's Greatest Arcade Hits came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2001, developed by Digital Eclipse. It was a solid collection for its time, a pocket full of quarter munchers that felt right at home on the small screen. This was before every classic game got a dozen re-releases, so having these in your backpack was a genuine treat.

You control a variety of ships, knights, and heroes across the different games, each with a simple goal: survive. In Defender, you fly left and right to rescue astronauts before they get abducted, constantly flipping to cover both sides of the screen. Joust has you flapping to stay aloft and knock opponents off their mounts. The pacing is relentless; these games were designed to eat coins and they don't go easy on you. It feels like holding a piece of arcade history in your hands, complete with all its punishing, addictive charm.
