Konami released Mikie in arcades back in 1984, a time when side scrolling action games were still finding their footing. It was a straightforward, single screen affair, not trying to be the biggest or the flashiest game on the block, just a solid quarter muncher with a clear, if odd, premise.
You control a high school student trying to win back his girlfriend's heart by retrieving items she lost throughout the school. Each room presents a new hazard, usually a teacher who chucks projectiles like chalk or dentures at you. You can fight back by grabbing basketballs from the gym or even releasing chickens to temporarily stun your pursuers. The game moves quickly, demanding sharp reflexes to dodge attacks and time your own throws. It feels frantic and a little silly, like a cartoon scrap happening between class periods.
