Game Overview

Ever wanted to raise beetles like a tiny, determined bug sensei? Boku no Kabuto Kuwagata turns that weirdly specific fantasy into a strangely compelling GBA game. You start by poking around forests with a net, trying not to scare off the good beetles—took me three tries to nab my first decent kabuto, and the little guy had a wonky horn. But that’s the charm.

It’s part pet sim, part underground beetle fight club (but, y’know, wholesome). You feed them jelly, watch them molt, and eventually test them in battles where they lock horns like mini kaiju. The pixel art’s simple but full of personality—my favorite part is when they wiggle their antennae after winning. Weirdly peaceful for a game about insect gladiators.

If you’ve ever lost hours to Animal Crossing or arranging your Pokémon boxes just right, this hits that same oddly satisfying niche. Just don’t blame me when you start judging real-life beetles by their virtual battle stats.
