Monster Force came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2002, published by Universal Interactive. It was part of that wave of action games that really tried to push the hardware, with fast movement and a lot happening on screen at once. You don't see many games like it anymore, which is a shame.
You control a lone soldier fighting through waves of alien creatures. Your main goal is to survive each stage, clearing out enemies and defeating large bosses. The core mechanics involve a rapid-fire weapon that can be powered up by collecting items dropped by foes, dodging intricate bullet patterns, and navigating tight spaces. The pacing is relentless; you are almost always moving and shooting. It feels like a pure test of reflexes and memorization, a tense and satisfying arcade experience condensed into a handheld.
