Tiny Universal monsters with guns blast through maze levels against the clock—Frankenstein’s a pain until you learn his moves, and multiplayer’s pure chaos with a friend.

Monster Force came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2002, published by Universal Interactive. It was part of that wave of licensed games that tried to do something a little different with familiar characters, putting Universal's classic monsters into a top-down shooter instead of a platformer or puzzle game. The small sprites and maze-like stages felt typical for the hardware, but the concept stood out.
You control one of several Universal monsters, like Frankenstein's Monster or the Wolf Man, each with a unique projectile weapon. Your goal is to clear each single-screen stage of all enemies before a timer runs out. The gameplay involves careful movement through tight corridors, blasting foes while avoiding their attacks; some enemies, like Frankenstein, require pattern recognition to defeat efficiently. The pacing is fast, and the difficulty can spike unexpectedly in later stages. It feels like a tense, compact arcade experience condensed for handheld play.
