Moonwar is one of those arcade shooters that feels like it teleported straight out of the '80s—but with way crisper explosions. You start off with this tiny, underpowered ship that barely survives the first wave of alien drones, but after snagging a few power-ups, you're suddenly shredding through enemy formations like they're made of paper. The controls are simple—just move and shoot—but the screen gets so chaotic so fast that you'll be dodging neon bullets and weaving between asteroids before you even realize you're holding your breath.
What I love is how it nails that old-school arcade feel without being punishingly hard. The aliens swarm in these weird, unpredictable patterns, and some of the later boss fights actually make you think instead of just mashing buttons. The pixel art is gorgeous too—especially when a big enemy ship blows up and the screen lights up with this shower of glowing debris. If you've ever wasted quarters on Galaga or R-Type back in the day, this one's right up your alley.
Just don't expect a deep story or anything. It's pure arcade action, and that's exactly why it works.
