Game Overview

Mouryou Senki Madara is one of those NES games that makes you go, "Wait, what?" the first time you boot it up. You're Madara, a dude who literally gets chopped into pieces by demons, and now you're hopping around on one leg trying to reclaim your missing limbs. It sounds ridiculous, but somehow it works—every body part you recover unlocks new moves, so by the end, you're slicing through enemies with this weird, fluid combo of sword slashes and magic.

The whole thing feels like someone mashed up Castlevania and an old samurai flick, complete with these gorgeous, moody backgrounds and enemies straight out of Japanese folklore. The Aeon Genesis translation helps, but honestly, half the fun is just figuring out what the heck is happening as you fight giant tengu and floating heads. Boss fights are brutal in that classic NES way—expect to die a lot before you learn their patterns.

It’s janky in places (this is an NES game), but there’s nothing else quite like it. If you’re into weird, stylish action games, this one’s worth digging up.
