Game Overview

Mouryou Senki Madara 2 is one of those SNES games that makes you wonder why it never left Japan. You play as Madara, this reborn warrior with a sword that cuts through demons like butter—except sometimes the game suddenly shifts into turn-based strategy mode, which keeps you from just button-mashing your way through. The first time it happened, I got wrecked because I wasn’t paying attention.

The atmosphere is what really sticks with you—gothic castles, eerie forests, and bosses that fill the screen with their creepy designs. It’s like if Castlevania and an old-school anime had a weird, strategy-infused baby. The music’s all haunting flutes and drums, too, which somehow makes slicing up monsters even cooler.

Fair warning: the difficulty spikes hard if you don’t learn the rhythm between action and strategy sections. But once it clicks, there’s nothing else quite like it on the SNES. Just don’t expect the game to hold your hand.
