Play Mutant Virus, The Online
Pilot a ship inside computer systems to eradicate a deadly digital virus.
Mutant Virus came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1992, developed by American Sammy. It was a late release for the NES, arriving when many players were already moving on to 16-bit systems, but it offered a unique take on the puzzle genre that felt distinct from other games on the platform.
You control a small ship that moves through a grid-based computer system, shooting colored blocks to clear them from each screen. The main goal is to eliminate all the virus blocks in a stage before they multiply and overwhelm the system. Key mechanics include matching three or more blocks of the same color to remove them, and collecting power-ups that let you destroy specific block types or clear entire rows. The game starts simple but quickly becomes frantic as viruses spread after each move, demanding careful planning and quick reactions. It feels like a tense race against an invisible clock, where every shot matters.
