MVP came out in 1990 as an arcade game from Sega. It was part of that wave of sports games trying to capture the speed and physicality of the real thing, but with the exaggerated hits and fast pace that made arcade cabinets so popular. You could tell it was built to grab your attention and your quarters with quick matches and competitive action.
You control a five man football team, moving players to pass, tackle, and sprint toward the end zone. The main goal is to outscore your opponent within the time limit, either against the computer or another player. Signature mechanics include lateral passes to avoid tackles and a turbo button for sudden bursts of speed that can break a defensive line. The pacing is relentless; one interception or fumble can completely shift the momentum of a game. It feels like controlled chaos, where every decision matters right up to the final whistle.
