Game Overview

Next Generation Tennis came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2000, developed by Konami. It was part of a wave of sports titles trying to capture the feel of arcade competition on a handheld, back when developers were still figuring out how to translate fast action onto that small screen.

You control a tennis player from an isometric view, moving them around the court to return serves and volleys. The main goal is to win tournaments by outscoring opponents in matches that use standard tennis rules. Two mechanics stand out: timing your swing is critical, as hitting too early or late sends the ball flying off course, and each character has unique attributes, like power or speed, which forces you to adapt your strategy. Matches are brisk but demand focus, with a difficulty that spikes noticeably against later opponents. It feels satisfying when you finally sync up your movements and place a winning shot just inside the line.
