Oddworld Adventures came out on the Game Boy in 1998, developed by Oddworld Inhabitants. It was a portable take on the first Abe game, fitting right into that era of ambitious platformers trying to squeeze big console ideas onto a small screen. The visuals were obviously simplified, but the grim industrial mood and strange setting translated surprisingly well.

You control Abe, a Mudokon trying to free his enslaved kin from a meat processing factory. The gameplay involves careful platforming, avoiding guards and traps, and using a limited set of commands to speak to or possess enemies. You move screen by screen, solving environmental puzzles and timing your actions precisely to avoid instant death. The pace is deliberate, and the difficulty is unforgiving; mistakes are punished quickly. It feels tense and methodical, demanding patience and observation over quick reflexes.
