Game Overview

Ogre came out on the Amiga in 1986, a turn-based strategy game from Origin Systems and MicroProse that adapted Steve Jackson's board game. It was a solid, thoughtful title for a system that was just beginning to show its potential for more complex simulations, offering a distinct kind of conflict that felt different from the arcade shooters and platformers of the time.

You take command of either a massive cybernetic tank, the Ogre, or a combined force of infantry, armor, and artillery trying to stop it. The goal is simple: destroy the enemy command post or eliminate all opposing units. Movement happens on a hex grid, with each unit type having different movement points and attack ranges. Combat is resolved through dice rolls calculated by the computer, which keeps the pace deliberate and strategic. Every decision matters, from positioning your howitzers to sacrificing lighter units to slow the Ogre's advance. It feels like a tense game of chess played with futuristic military hardware.
