Play Ogre Battle - The March of the Black Queen Online
Command a rebellion, organize troops, liberate towns, and manage your army's composition in this strategic RPG on SNES.
Ogre Battle: The March of the Black Queen came out on the Super Nintendo in 1993, developed by Quest and published by Enix. It was one of those mid-90s SNES games that felt ambitious, a strategy RPG that didn't look or play like anything else at the time, more concerned with large-scale troop movements than individual heroics.
You command an entire rebellion, organizing units of up to five characters, knights, archers, clerics, beasts, and deploying them across a sprawling world map. Your main goal is to liberate towns and strongholds from imperial control, but the real depth is in building your army's composition and managing their alignment and reputation. Battles are auto-resolved based on your unit's placement, class, and morale, so preparation is everything; a mispositioned healer can be wiped out before they act. The game is slow and demanding, with permanent character death and hidden recruitment conditions for rare classes like liches or dragons. It feels like conducting a precarious, living war where every decision ripples outward.
