Play Pac-in-Time Online
Pac-Man ditches the dots for weird platforming—turn into a fireball, swing on ropes, and backtrack through janky pyramids while wondering how this became a Pac-Man game.

I picked up Pac-in-Time for the Game Boy back in 1995, a Namco release that felt a bit out of place among the platformers of that era. It was a strange, ambitious attempt to take Pac-Man out of the maze and into a side scrolling adventure, a concept that was interesting, if not always perfectly executed.
You control Pac-Man himself, navigating through a series of themed worlds, screen by screen. Your main goal is to collect keys to unlock doors and progress, all while avoiding or defeating enemies. The signature mechanics are a real mix; you can turn into a bouncing fireball to break blocks and attack, and you often have to swing on ropes to cross gaps. The pacing is slow, methodical, and the difficulty can spike unexpectedly due to some awkward jumps and enemy placements. It feels like a curious experiment, a game that is more memorable for its odd choices than for its smooth play.
