Play PGA Tour '96 Online
Top-down shot planning, side-view swings—weirdly satisfying once you nail the timing. Sawgrass’ island green will wreck you, but that’s half the charm.

Electronic Arts released PGA Tour '96 for the Game Boy in 1995, a time when handheld golf games were still a novelty. It was one of the few serious attempts to bring a full golf simulation to the small screen, competing with other portable sports titles that often sacrificed depth for simplicity. This game tried to pack a real course and a full set of clubs into that tiny cartridge.
You control a golfer through a full 18 holes, with the main objective being to shoot the lowest score possible. The gameplay splits between an overhead map for planning your shot direction and power, and a side view for actually swinging the club. Timing your button press is everything; a fraction of a second early or late sends your ball into the rough or a water hazard. The courses are challenging, with narrow fairways and punishing greens that demand careful strategy on every shot. It feels genuinely rewarding to finally sink a long putt after several frustrating attempts.
