Pinocchio on the Sega Genesis came out in 1996 from Virgin Interactive. It was one of those later platformers that tried to do something a little different with a license, back when the 16-bit era was starting to wind down. The game takes the basic story and turns it into a side-scrolling adventure, which was pretty common at the time, but it had its own look and feel.

You play as Pinocchio, moving through levels based on parts of the story, like the toy shop or Pleasure Island. You jump on platforms, fight enemies with a little kick attack, and collect items like coins and health. One of the main mechanics is using Pinocchio's growing nose to reach higher places or trigger switches; it extends when you tell a lie, which is a neat idea. The levels are fairly linear but have some hidden areas to find. The game can be tough in spots, with some precise platforming required, especially in later stages. It feels like a solid, if sometimes unforgiving, attempt to bring the character into the action genre.
