Game Overview

Player Manager 2 throws you straight into the deep end—you’re a decent footballer who somehow ends up managing a scrappy lower-league team while still playing. At first, your player is the only one who can actually kick the ball straight, so you’d better pick his position carefully. (I went with striker, obviously, because someone’s gotta score.)

The matches are brutal—scoring feels like a miracle, even with your star player—but you can tweak tactics, scout transfers, or even just sim games if you’d rather focus on the management side. The little touches make it: Alan Hansen pops up with pre-match analysis (hilariously off-base sometimes), and you’ll obsess over upgrading your ramshackle stadium while praying your aging legs hold out. Retirement looms eventually, and the game gets weirdly cagey about why you can only play every few seasons after that. Still, there’s something weirdly satisfying about dragging your team up the leagues, one shanked shot at a time.
