Pocky & Rocky 2 is one of those SNES gems that never got enough love. You’re back as shrine maiden Pocky and her tanuki buddy Rocky, blasting through waves of yokai and demons with those satisfying rapid-fire shots. The Princess calls for help (again), and off you go—dodging arrows, weaving through bullet patterns, and occasionally grabbing a power-up that makes your shots absolutely ridiculous.
What I love is how chaotic it gets when you bring a friend along for co-op. Rocky’s got this weird floaty jump, and Pocky’s quicker but squishier—took me a few tries to figure out who I liked better. The levels throw everything at you: haunted forests, pirate ships, even a weirdly tense bamboo maze. And that final boss? Brutal, but in that old-school way where you actually feel yourself improving.
It’s a shame this one’s stuck in beta limbo—the sprite work alone deserves more attention.
