Pocky & Rocky 2 came out for the Super Nintendo in 1994, developed by Natsume. It was a time when the SNES was full of action games with bright colors and fast pacing, and this one fit right in with its top-down view and Japanese folklore theme. You don't see many games like it, even now.

You control either Pocky, a shrine maiden, or Rocky, a raccoon dog, as you move through levels screen by screen, defeating all the enemies to proceed. Your main goal is to fight through various stages, each ending with a large boss, to rescue your friends. You use a basic shot attack and can collect power-ups to change its spread or strength; a key mechanic is the screen-clearing bomb you build up by grabbing scrolls. The game is known for its difficulty, with dense enemy patterns that require careful dodging. It feels frantic but satisfying when you slip through a tight gap and return fire.
