Pooyan came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1982, developed by Konami. It was one of those early arcade style games that felt right at home on the NES, a straightforward action title without much pretense.
You control a mother pig protecting her piglets from wolves descending on balloons. Your main objective is to shoot the wolves or pop their balloons with your bow and arrow before they can reach the bottom of the screen. The signature mechanics involve timing your shots carefully, as you can only fire one arrow at a time, and occasionally launching rocks to clear multiple threats. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty ramps up quickly as more wolves appear from both above and below. It feels tense and frantic, a constant test of your aim and reflexes.
