Pooyan (J) is one of those weirdly charming NES games where you play as a momma pig defending her piglets from wolves on balloons. The first stage has you bouncing up and down in a cable car, popping wolf balloons before they reach the ground—mess up, and they’ll climb up to get you. The controls are simple, but the wolves get faster, and their acorn shots start coming from all angles.
What I like is the risk-reward of going for the meat bonus at the top—toss it, and wolves abandon their balloons to chase it, netting you big points. But time it wrong, and you’re suddenly swarmed. The second stage flips things with armored balloons and an alpha wolf that just keeps summoning reinforcements. It’s chaotic in the best way.
It’s not deep, but Pooyan (J) has this arcade-style tension where one mistake can spiral fast. The pixel art is cute, though the wolves look more goofy than threatening. A solid pick if you want something quick and a little frantic.
