Konami released Pooyan in the arcades in 1982, a time when simple, single-screen concepts were common. You play as a mother pig trying to protect her piglets from a pack of wolves, a premise that fits right in with the straightforward, character-driven games of that era.
You control the mother pig, stationed in a cable car, and your goal is to shoot down wolves that float up or down using balloons. The wolves throw rocks or drop acorns, and you can also lower pieces of meat to distract them. The screen scrolls vertically, and the pace picks up quickly as more wolves appear. It feels frantic but manageable, a test of timing and accuracy under pressure.
