Power Blade came out on the NES in 1992, published by Taito. It was part of that later wave of NES action games, the kind that tried to push the hardware a bit further with more detailed environments and a faster pace. You control a soldier named Nova, tasked with reactivating a global defense system by retrieving six data tapes from different sectors. The main mechanic is your boomerang-like Power Suit attack; you aim it in eight directions and it flies out before returning to you, which means you often have to position yourself to catch shots on the rebound. The levels are large, non-linear areas where you find keycards to unlock new paths, encouraging a good amount of backtracking and exploration. The game moves quickly, with a steady challenge from the enemy placements and platforming that keeps you alert. It feels sharp and responsive, a game where your skill with the boomerang's trajectory directly dictates your success.
