Power Blade 2 came out for the NES in 1992, developed by Natsume. It was part of that late NES era where developers really pushed the hardware, squeezing out detailed graphics and complex stage designs. You play as Nova, an elite agent sent to stop a rogue AI system from taking over the world.

You control Nova through six distinct stages, each with branching paths and environmental hazards. Your main weapon is a boomerang-like blade, but you also collect power-ups that change its behavior, like a spread shot or a piercing laser. The stages are filled with traps, moving platforms, and enemies that require quick reflexes. The game is known for its high difficulty, especially in later levels where precision jumps and enemy patterns become unforgiving. It feels fast and demanding, with a real emphasis on memorization and execution.
