Puyo Puyo 2 came out for the Sega Genesis in 1994, developed by Compile. You control falling pairs of blobby, gelatinous Puyos, rotating and placing them to create groups of four or more of the same color. The main goal is to set off chain reactions that send nuisance Puyos over to your opponent's screen. Key mechanics include the ability to offset incoming garbage by triggering your own chains, and the new "offset rule" which lets you counterattack during an opponent's assault. The pacing is fast, and the CPU opponents are notably more aggressive than in the first game. It feels intensely satisfying when you set off a big chain and watch the screen clear while burying your rival under a pile of junk.
