R-Type III on the GBA is that perfect mix of classic shooter chaos and "why did I just die?" frustration. You’re back in the cockpit fighting the Bydo Empire, but this time you get to pick from three different laser units before each run—each one changes how your shots behave as you collect power-ups. I went with the default first, then immediately regretted it when I saw how much cooler the others looked.
The levels are these sprawling, screen-filling nightmares full of weird alien structures and bullet patterns that feel almost unfair… until you memorize them. And that detachable laser pod? Still genius. Stick it behind you for cover or send it ahead to chew through enemies. Just don’t lose it—things get messy fast without your floating firepower.
It’s R-Type at its best: punishing, flashy, and weirdly satisfying when you finally beat that one boss after 20 tries.
