R-Type III on SNES is one of those shooters that makes you feel like you're piloting a tiny, doomed spaceship against impossible odds—and loving every second of it. The Bydo Empire’s back, and they’ve packed six brutal levels with screen-filling bosses that’ll have you sweating bullets.
What’s cool here is the new laser system: you pick from three different units at the start, and each one evolves in weird ways as you grab power-ups. I went with the default first, but the others change how you approach fights—one even bends shots around corners. And yeah, you can still detach your laser pod to flank enemies, which never gets old.
Fair warning: it’s punishing. You’ll die a lot. But when you finally thread the needle between a boss’s bullet patterns and melt its weak point, it’s pure arcade adrenaline. The pixel art’s gorgeous too, especially the organic-mechanical horrors in the later stages.
