Game Overview

Racket Attack on NES is one of those simple-but-surprisingly-deep tennis games. You've got two main ways to play: either go solo through a tournament against increasingly tough AI opponents, or grab a friend for some classic couch competition. I usually went for the tournament mode—there's something satisfying about grinding through those seven matches.

First thing you'll do is pick between men's and women's players (eight options each), and here's where it gets interesting. Some players have killer serves but move like molasses, while others are quick but can't smash worth a darn. Took me a few tries to find my favorite—ended up sticking with this lanky guy who had just the right balance.

Then you choose your court surface: hard, clay, or grass. The difference isn't just cosmetic—the ball actually bounces differently on each. Grass courts make for faster games, while clay slows things down. Matches follow standard tennis rules (best two out of three sets), and the controls are simple enough that you'll be volleying within seconds, but mastering the timing? That's where the real challenge kicks in.
