Racket Attack came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1988, developed and published by Jaleco. It was one of several tennis games on the platform, offering a straightforward take on the sport during an era when many developers were exploring different sports simulations.
You control a tennis player from a behind-the-back perspective, moving them around the court to return shots. The main goal is to win tournaments by outscoring opponents in sets. Key mechanics include choosing from different court surfaces, like grass or clay, which subtly change how the ball bounces and moves; you also select from a roster of sixteen players, each with varying strengths. The game is easy to pick up but challenging to master, especially against tougher computer opponents. It feels satisfying when you finally time a shot perfectly and send the ball just out of your rival's reach.
