Play Rad Racer (PC10) Online
Race through scenic tracks at high speeds, avoiding traffic and obstacles.
Rad Racer came out in 1987 for the NES, developed by Square and published by Nintendo. It was one of the early racing games on the system, offering a simple but fast-paced experience that stood out among other titles of the time. The game didn't try to be overly complex; it focused on speed and the thrill of the drive, which made it a straightforward pick for racing fans.
You control a Formula One style race car, weaving through traffic and trying to beat the clock across several international courses. The main goal is to finish each track within the time limit while avoiding collisions with other vehicles or roadside obstacles. Signature mechanics include shifting between high and low gears for better control on turns, and a turbo boost that gives a temporary burst of speed at the cost of increased risk. The pacing is intense, with the scenery rushing by in a mode that simulates a pseudo-3D perspective, and the difficulty ramps up noticeably in later stages. It feels like a tense, focused dash where one mistake can cost you the race.
