Railroad Tycoon on the Amiga was one of those games that made you feel like a proper industrialist—if industrialists spent hours obsessing over pixelated trains. You start with a tiny rail line and a dream, then slowly connect cities, manage cargo, and outmaneuver rival tycoons. The economic side is surprisingly deep—prices fluctuate, demand shifts, and if you’re not careful, you’ll bankrupt your company by overextending on fancy express lines.
The Amiga version had this great chunky aesthetic, with trains that actually looked like they had weight to them. And the soundtrack? A bouncy, synth-heavy thing that somehow made spreadsheets about coal shipments feel exciting. Just don’t get too attached to your perfect rail network—one bad merger or a sneaky AI competitor could ruin everything.
Still one of the best business sims from that era, even if the disk-swapping was a pain.
