Rescue: The Embassy Mission came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1989, developed and published by Kemco. It was one of those games that stood out on the NES for trying something different, blending stealth and tactical action at a time when straightforward platformers and shooters were more common. You control a team of six counter-terrorist operatives tasked with rescuing hostages from an embassy siege. The game is split into distinct phases: first, you position snipers across from the building, timing shots between the patrols of guards in the windows. Then, you send in climbers to scale the walls, avoiding searchlights, before switching to a side-view perspective for close-quarters combat inside. The pacing is deliberate, almost tense; you spend a lot of time watching patterns, waiting for openings. One mistake alerts the whole building, and you have to start over. It feels like a careful, high-stakes puzzle where patience is your greatest weapon.
