Rise of the West is one of those Amiga games that sneaks up on you—it looks simple at first glance, but there's a surprising amount of depth once you get into it. You start off managing a small frontier town, trying to balance resources like food and lumber while fending off bandits and rival settlements. The pixel art has that classic Amiga charm, with little details like settlers chopping wood or wagons rolling into town.

What I didn't expect was how quickly things escalate. One minute you're peacefully expanding your farms, the next you're scrambling to build defenses because some rival faction decided today was the day to raid you. The controls take a minute to get used to—this is very much a product of its time—but once it clicks, it's weirdly addictive. Just don't be surprised if you lose track of an hour or two figuring out the best way to grow your little western empire.
