Game Overview
Rockman & Forte (or Mega Man & Bass if you grew up with the English names) is one of those GBA games that feels like it's testing you from the very first stage. I remember booting it up expecting classic Mega Man action, then immediately getting wrecked by the first enemy ambush—turns out this SNES port didn't soften the blows for handheld play.
What's cool is you pick between Rockman's reliable charged shots or Forte's rapid-fire chaos and wall jumps. I went with Forte first because who doesn't want to dash around like a maniac? Bad idea. His double jump takes practice, and some platforming sections feel designed to mock you. But when you finally nail that perfect boss pattern or discover one of the hidden CDs (they're tucked in the most ridiculous spots), it's pure retro satisfaction.
The Robot Masters here are some of the series' best—weirdos like Pirate Man and Ground Man with attack patterns that'll make you groan before you memorize them. Pixel art pops on the GBA screen, though the smaller display means you'll occasionally get hit by off-screen bullets. Classic Mega Man jank, really. If you've played MM7, this feels like its faster, slightly meaner cousin.
Just keep extra AAs handy—you'll need them for the frustration breaks.
