If you played the first Saint Seiya: Ougon Densetsu on Famicom, this sequel feels like a proper upgrade—same anime-inspired sprites, but with way more polish. You pick your Bronze Saint (I always went with Seiya, obviously) and punch through waves of Specters while building up your Cosmo meter for special attacks. The combat’s still simple, but the boss fights actually require some timing now instead of just button mashing.
It’s a shame this never left Japan—the sprite work during the big attacks looks great for an NES game, especially when you trigger a Meteor Punch or Pegasus Ryu Sei Ken. Just don’t expect a deep RPG or anything; it’s mostly linear, with some light exploration between fights. Still, if you’re into the anime or just like old-school beat ‘em ups with a cosmic twist, it’s a solid hidden gem.
